This is the channel idea. None of this is implemented and will change when the implementation is better understood. You will set a search path of channels pear config-set channel_path pear horde zzoss someotherrandom and then you can run pear install Log and get PEAR::Log if zzoss log exists, you can go pear install zzoss::Log
Brilliant. I apologize for the misunderstanding of this. Yes, this is a great feature. Of course, it then still raises the question "why use propose a package in PEAR?" -- e.g. if someone creates not-pear.net where anyone can create a package w/ deps etc. and not need to go through any voting procedure to get it approved, what's to stop everyone from just adding their packages there? Especially if not-pear.net provides a better issue tracker, better release management tools, CVS repositories, etc.... Hans
