One might even add (3) a public rating and comment system to mark a package's conformance to individual aspects of the PEAR standards. This would allow distribution of effort among all users to highlight what packages need attention, and PEAR-QA would have instant feedback on what packages are not compliant.You could gather usage data from the pear installer 'calling home'. I didn't propose this, because it is skewed. Users will most probably pick the officially sanctioned package, and only in severe situations you could detect a mass of people jumping ship to another package. The same applies to user opinions, with the extra skew that minorities tend to be more vocal than majorities. Cheers, Sérgio
