The idea of the Group is to handle things which cannot be handled on pear-dev. If the mailinglist is public this is no longer possible as the issue and our internal discussion will eventually make its way to pear-dev again. We also decided that we only want to publish vote results and not who voted for what.Could someone from the pearweb team setup the account request system to send mails to pear-dev instead of pear-group so we get more transparency into the system, since it seems to be needed. And while we're doing transparency, can there be a public link to pear-group archives so we can read transcripts? Obviously one should not be able to post if one is not a pear-group member, but seeing the ebb and flow of pear-group conversation sure would be nice.
Anyways in the end you guys have to decide if you want a PEAR Group or not. The Groups existance is founded on the trust by the Community since without it there is little reason for us to come up with decisions (as without trust nobody in the Community will care anyways). If we dont have the trust of the Community the Group should be replaced or dissolved.I don't think that the majority of PEAR developers has any sort of mistrust in this direction. I can't speak for the others but this is certainly not the case for me. I must admit that Jon was right. We should all save these energies for the code and the documentation not just for internal gossip like "I trust but I want to see". For the record the discussions of the PHP group are conducted in the same fashion, private. Cheers David Costa
