It wouldn't matter if people couldn't post. They would just read the
archives and discuss the contents on one of the public mailing lists.
Trust me: the stuff that's discussed there is really not that
interesting, and now that the RFC system is in place, nothing much at
all is discussed on the pear-group list other than requests and
comments that are sent directly to us. (And the fact that they were
sent directly to us and not to a public mailing lists was the choice
of the person sending the mail, not us.)
