I'm glad that PEAR also thinks so -- even if it means fewer packages in PEAR in the long run. I'm sure Greg is right; PEAR will figure out what it means to be the "official repository". Personally, I'd like to see a further development of the core libs, because people are always re-implementing those. HansBrilliant. I apologize for the misunderstanding of this. Yes, this is a great feature. Of course, it then still raises the question "why use propose a package in PEAR?" -- e.g. if someone creates not-pear.net where anyone can create a package w/ deps etc. and not need to go through any voting procedure to get it approved, what's to stop everyone from just adding their packages there? Especially if not-pear.net provides a better issue tracker, better release management tools, CVS repositories, etc....exactly our thinking! as i have said: its not that we think competition sucks. we have good reasons to be doing things the way we are (well not everything has good reasons, so they will changed), but we actually are trying to build infrastructure .. period. if the "competition" uses that then we are even happier.
